Did you hear about the rose that grew from concrete?.... No? - Well you will soon.
We were fortunate to work on our first short feature film entitled The Rat Race. Inspired by Tupac’s poem 'The Rose That Grew From Concrete' 'The Rat Race' and serves as a musical and visual collaboration from cutting edge creatives across South London.
The film itself runs for no more than 7 minutes and is a no dialogue piece that follows a young woman as she makes her regular commute to work. By juxtaposing by a mundane reality with her dreamlike imagination the film offers a fresh new perspective on the everyday hustle that so many of us experience. The short was written by Cassandra Kyeyune (Rukundo) and features music from her (as well as many others) upcoming project(s).
We shot film throughout various areas in Croydon, Brixton and a beautiful garden meadow in East London.
We put together clipped over 92 video clips to a 7 minute visual masterpiece. Below is a shot of the grading process featuring one of the actors, YoYo Odunubi
The main character is played by Sarah Akinsola who is an amazing actor.
The short film will be screened @ProteinStudios in Shoreditch on the 12th September 2017 from 7pm to 10pm. If you would like to attend, click here to RSVP. The guest list is strictly invite only so hit register!
